Reimagining Intrepid Travel’s Modern PR Strategy
At Intrepid Travel, building a refreshed, forward-looking PR playbook has been a top organizational priority. We already leverage an in-house team of more than 20 dedicated communications professionals, backed by agency partners across regions globally. Last year alone, we earned coverage in more than 10,000 published stories featuring Intrepid Travel, and as we build on that hard-won momentum, we recognized our PR framework needed an update to fully align with the realities of today’s fragmented, fast-shifting media ecosystem.
Our core vision for PR and communications at Intrepid is clear: to grow, strengthen, and protect our brand sentiment and reputation as the best travel company for people and the planet. Our updated strategy centers on three foundational pillars:
A robust, multimedia-first press office that delivers consistent, credible brand presence across all channels
Signature, purpose-led campaigns that create high-impact, memorable storytelling moments
A refined cohesive messaging framework that underpins every initiative, reinforcing our core purpose, thought leadership, and real-world impact
When these pillars work in sync, they generate a steady, continuous drumbeat of brand attention, punctuated by high-resonance moments that tie to key cultural conversations — all while advancing our underlying goal of building lasting awareness and trust with travelers and stakeholders alike.
Digging into the details of our strategy update, three core shifts have transformed how we approach PR at Intrepid:
- Think Broadly Beyond Traditional Earned Media
We no longer limit our PR work to the bounds of traditional earned media. In response to an evolved, fragmented media landscape, we’ve expanded our definition of credible third-party validation to fast-growing spaces including independent creator newsletters, creator-led journalism, digital influencers, long-form publishing partnerships, and emerging new media platforms.
- Prioritize Fewer, Bigger, Better Integrated Campaigns
We’ve refocused our integrated campaign work around a "fewer, bigger, better" mantra that prioritizes impact over volume. We’ve drastically expanded our campaign toolbox, and for every major brand announcement or launch, we now aim to activate at least five distinct media touchpoints and coordinated launch moments to cut through audience noise.
- Shift to Meaningful Quality Metrics
We’ve redesigned our measurement approach to prioritize more impactful, outcome-focused quality metrics. Today, we center our key performance targets on earned mentions, in-depth feature coverage, and links from high domain authority (DA) sites, rather than chasing shallow volume for volume’s sake.
Our new PR playbook is far more than a reaction to changes in the media industry — it is a proactive strategy designed from the ground up to thrive in the modern media landscape.
